• Hair Cuts

Haircuts can sometimes be difficult for neurodivergent individuals. The challenges can range from anxiety to sensory. The BCBA will work with you and your child to develop the desensitization goal(s) to tolerate hair cuts. Once each goal is met within the session, the BCBA can support your child to generalize his /her skills into the community.

  • Doctor Appointments

Often children with Autism or similar diagnoses see a developmental pediatrician. It can help to inform the healthcare provider on how your child prefers to communicate, his/her sensitivities (e.g. to touch, fear of shots) and any behaviors that might occur during the visit. The BCBA can work on short term goals to tolerate waiting at the doctor’s office, tolerating the exam and medical treatment. The BCBA can work on skills in session and also support at doctor appointments.

  • Dentist Appointments

Often dentists and their staff do not receive specialized training to work with neurodivergent individuals. Dental exams can be uncomfortable and scary for anyone. The BCBA can work with your child to desensitize him/her to dental tools, laying in a dental chair, and following directions.
